Lyrics

Green eyes, that’s a first
As far as opening lines go, that may be my worst
But I can’t help it, for ever since I first saw them shine
I’ve lost all control of what’s ahead and what’s behind
You look at me as if I’ve known you for long
In a life filled with music, you’re my favorite song

I have never heard a voice
That makes the rest of a day seem like tedious noise
The song of angels inside you, but there’s so much more
You handle keys like you own this whole god damn floor
And I wish I could hear you play songs all night
Because more gorgeous than sunsets are songs that you write

But you’re taken I hear
Some other lucky man gets to call you his dear
The same old story and that’s how it always is
But it didn’t use to cut as deep nor hurt as much as this
For better or worse, I hope your heart breaks
So I can mend it from pieces, whatever it takes

You said, “You’re a poet, I can see”
Now your poet is everything I wanna be
Maybe you’ve already found him, now that’s what I fear
Wanna put down my pen and have you be the first one to hear
And if he can’t see beauty in all that you write
You know where to find me, come find me tonight
